  • Egg Hatching

Due to an unforeseen circumstance, the first group of eggs placed in the incubator at Foster Public Library will no longer be able to hatch. But our second batch is right on target!

We are expecting all remaining eggs to hatch around March 8th to March 10th. You can visit the Foster Public Library any time during library hours to watch them hatch. We will also put out notices on our social media to let you know when it’s happening!

If you want to check in on the progress of the eggs, come to one of our candling events!

After the chicks hatch, we will keep them in the Foster Public Library for a week, so you can visit and hold them before they head off to their new home.

  • Bring Your Thing! February Edition

*NOTE: This event is cancelled due to the winter storm on February 28th. Stay safe! We will be back with another Bring Your Thing day in March.*

Got an unfinished project rattling around in your drawer, waiting to be completed? Have a fun craft that you just haven’t had the time to dedicate? Bring it to the Foster Library on Tuesday, February 28 at 6pm!

Bring whatever you want to work on, no matter how big or small: from scrapbooking to knitting to sewing to writing the next great American novel.

Join other creatives for company, conversation, and accountability while you make some progress on your personal project! Refreshments will be provided as well.

  • Egg Candling

Last week, we placed almost three dozen eggs into our incubator at Foster Public Library. Now, it’s time to check up on the little guys!

On February 16th, February 23rd, and March 2nd at Foster Public Library, Shelley Fitzgerald of MisFitz farm is returning to candle the eggs. You will be able to see inside the egg to check if the chick is growing inside! Each night the program starts at 5:30pm. The chicks are expected to hatch between March 8th and 9th. Click here to learn more about the egg hatching.

Remember, you can visit the incubator any time the library is open! Once the chicks hatch, you will be able to visit them as well. We’ll keep them in the library for a couple of weeks after hatching.

Register by calling either library, emailing info@fosterlibraries.org, or filling out our online form. Thanks!

  • Library Lover’s Raffle

Throughout the month of February, purchase a raffle ticket to enter our drawing! This year there are 29 prizes to potentially win, from gift cards to themed baskets to accessories. All the prizes are donated by local businesses and friends of the library, so you’ll be supporting your community!

Each ticket is $10. Come to either Tyler Free Library or Foster Public Library by February 29 to buy your ticket. Winners will be contacted as soon as the drawing has taken place. Good luck!

  • Bring Your Own Book: February

Join us on Tuesday, February 21 at 6pm at the Foster Public Library for BRING YOUR OWN BOOK! Rather than have everyone read the same book, we ask each participant to bring whatever books they’ve recently finished. You get to choose whatever page count and subject matter appeals to you. And it’s a great way to get recommendations for your next read!

Refreshments will be provided. The event will be available by Zoom for those who cannot attend in person. Please provide your email if you would like to be sent a Zoom link on the day of the event.

You can register for this event online with this form, calling the library, emailing info@fosterlibraries.org, or by dropping by in person to sign up!

  • The Life of a Chicken Egg Presentation

Ever wonder how a chicken grows from an egg to a full-fledged bird? At 5:30pm on Wednesday, February 8 at Foster Public Library, we will be hosting a presentation by Shelley Fitzgerald of Misfitz Farm. Listen to her experience with farming, and watch as she sets up an incubator right here in our library!

Throughout the month of February, we will have chicken eggs incubating at Foster Public Library. Come back to check on their progress and help care for the eggs. The chicks are expected to hatch around February 28, so be sure to come back for some fluffy baby birds!

Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for all the latest chick hatching updates.
